Landscape Horticulturist Apprentice
WHAT IS YOUR ROLE?
Performing a variety of routine landscape maintenance tasks including: mowing, lining, raking, planting, weeding, pruning, blowing, garbage and litter pick up etc.
Operate and maintain equipment such as mowers, string trimmers, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers and pole pruners.
Work at different commercial and residential locations and going directly to job sites from your home.
Removing invasive and weedy plants from degraded and unmanaged sites. Restoring landscapes using a combination of organic management practices, native plants and gardening techniques.
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS?
Ability to deal with the public in a courteous and effective manner.
Punctual, trustworthy and diligent.
Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.
Demonstrated ability to negotiate difficult terrain, walk long distances, and carry out a variety of tasks that require considerable physical exertion
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
Available to work flexible days/hours.
An interest in restoring biodiversity and caring for the environment!
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
Grow in an apprenticeship position to design, build and maintain ecologically friendly landscapes and gardens in urban environments.
How to create pollinator gardens, wildlife habitat and butterfly gardens specific to the Vancouver area.
Work in a safe, healthy environment using the latest battery powered tools and equipment.
Get on the job training in the identification, propagation, and horticulture of native plants, trees, shrubs, and wildflowers of British Columbia.
Opportunities to complete relevant education including Residential Landscape Technician Diploma and the Red Seal Landscape Horticulturalist Program.
